Beach Day at Home

The best laid plans did not go as planned – and it ended up just fine.

Our City got a scorching weekend, our first real taste of summer, with two sunny days in the 30s.

I had planned for the family to go to the Bluffs, one of our favourite parts of the City, with a nice trail and vast beach.

The hubby and T, as always, took their time and we left three hours later than I had intended. As expected, the beach was at capacity and police blocked the street into the area.

I was so grumpy on the drive home, because this was not the first time – nor will it be the last! – that we could’ve prevented this if we had left early.

When we got home, the hubby turned on the sprinkler in the backyard and picked T up and ran through it.

Seeing T laugh and run back and forth repeatedly was all it took for me to lose my grumpiness.

The hubby then picked me up without warning and ran through the sprinkler with me. So I was now soaked too.

I went in and opened a container of guacamole and poured myself a glass of cold mango juice and enjoyed both with a scary movie in the air conditioner while the two of them stayed outside.

The weekend may not have included the beach I planned for but it ended up being a good one.

We also included learning activities. This was the best writing practice we’ve seen from T yet!

Oh, and I took Ma to get her second dose. She is fully vaccinated now. What a relief!

In the meantime, we will have many more beach days to look forward to yet, cuz summer is just getting started!

  1. Happy week ahead. Summer will get hotter here and more outdoors to cool down and have fun hopefully. It’s California’s covid independent day, sort off. Interesting weeks ahead. Take care.

    1. Things are quickly opening over here and like you said, it’ll be a very interesting few weeks ahead. I hope people remember to balance safety and responsibility while enjoying life. The good news is our vaccination rates are high here.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

  2. Love the idea and imagination. Beach and Summer is anywhere we want it. I remember many long Summers ago when my son was still small, I bought an inflatable pool at Walmart in Texas. So much happy fun family memories. We would cook crawfish with corn and eat it outdoors. Getting Nostalgic now. Thank you for sharing a wonderful family time. So much awaits for us all this Summer. Adventure is anything & everything. Take care.

    1. Thank you. 🙂 An inflatable pool definitely sounds appealing right now! And crawfish and corn sounds delicious too. These memories are the ones you treasure and hang onto long after the events have transpired. 🙂 Enjoy the rest of your week!

  3. Awe so sorry the beach didn’t work out but I’m glad the backyard sprinkler did! How funny your hubby carried you into the sprinkler, I wish you had a picture of that too…lol It looks like T didn’t trace those letters? Either way, he has really progressed! You must be so relieved your mom has the vaccines now. I hope she is doing much better.

    1. Thanks Diane. As long as he’s having fun, that is all that matters! But we did book a reservation this time – a new service that launched on Monday – so we have a beach day for sure this Saturday. Although it’ll be 9 degrees cooler so probably just dipping our toes in!

T has made very good progress on his writing. Just gonna keep working on it is all we can do. 🙂

Are you fully vaccinated now? And yes it is a relief for my Ma. We’re due for our second dose in August.

  4. Bummer it didn’t work out as planned but I am happy it all worked out in the end! Sprinkler, guacamole, and a scary movie for the win!

    1. Thanks Robyn. I really couldn’t complain. Things worked out in the end and T was happy, so that’s all I could ask for. Hope it’s getting nice and summery where you are too!

  5. I’m sure every beach around the city was completely packed! I’m glad you had a back-up plan as it sounds like the sprinkler was a real hit. I also love that you managed to find some alone time! And agreed, the summer is just getting started, so there will be plenty more beach days in the future. That’s great news to hear that your Ma got her second dose!

    1. Yes, I think everyone wanted outdoor time. We had left the house too late to head up to Darlington. But even when we decided to go to Darlington, we saw they posted a tweet around 3 pm that they closed due to full capacity. I’m glad things seem to be headed back to normal. Will try again this weekend. The day permit pilot started today! Good luck getting yours. 🙂

      1. The pilot for day-use reservations sounds like a great idea for those that take more time getting ready in the morning! Hopefully you’re able to snag one for this weekend as it looks like the weather is supposed to be nice again, it won’t be nearly as hot though.

      1. That’s awesome!! Glad to hear that the reservation system is easy to navigate. This certainly takes away all of the stress of finding parking. And now you don’t have to worry about leaving so early!

    1. Thank you, LaDonna. It was a nice consolation from the beach. And yes, we couldn’t ask for more than Team T. 🙏 Hope you are doing well. Not sure what the temperature is like where you are but we definitely needed the cold sprinkler today!

      1. I hope you have many beach days ahead. We’ve had a rainy day here today but it’s looking warm in the days ahead♥️. Have a happy rest of your Sunday.
