Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn

It’s the first Fall weekend and we enjoyed a Saturday afternoon hike at Rouge Urban National Park, a wonderful oasis nearby our home.

We were blessed with a last blast of summer weather, so we all wore t-shirts and shorts with the added benefit of no bugs or sweltering heat.

It seems like everyone in town wanted to soak up what’s left of summer. The parking lot was packed and we parked on a side ditch with the other latecomers.

We enjoyed a short hike that took us up a hill and into a forest. It was nice seeing the yellows, reds and oranges starting to emerge.

There were a lot of people out, so we had our masks on during the moments we passed by large groups and families.

It was nice seeing others making the most of these ongoing pandemic conditions while keeping safe.

We spent the last part of our visit by the small pebbled river. T dug up rocks and hurled them in the water. He finds this very calming.

We rewarded ourselves afterwards – not that it was a strenuous hike – with sweet cold slushees from the gas station on our way home.

During bedtime this week, we read the book “Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn,” wonderfully told and beautifully illustrated by Kenard Pak. It’s an appropriate book for the times.

Hello autumn, indeed!

  1. I am originally from the tropics so here’s my reaction to your title 😭😭😭
But don’t mind me, I just needed to let that out 😂

    1. I feel your pain. I love Fall but I can’t stand what comes next. Too bad we can’t just skip right into late Spring next!

  2. I can’t believe how lovely this past weekend was with such warm weather. Glad you were able to make the most of it while it lasts and enjoy some fall foliage. Rouge Urban National Park became my go to place to hike earlier in the year due to its close proximity to Toronto. I hope they continue to expand it because it’s clearly really popular. Take care.

    1. The weekend was gorgeous. This weekend is like 10 degrees cooler! Hope we get yet another blast of warm weather. 🙂 Rouge Park is great. Will definitely go back in a few weeks when the leaves are even more colourful. Take care.

    1. Thanks Diane! We have a few fall weekend hikes planned over the next few weeks. Gonna enjoy it before winter – my least favourite season – and its short dark cold days arrive!

  3. Looks really pretty! I love the changing of the seasons. Summer is just too hot and I love those days you can still wear shorts and not deal with the bugs. Sounds like you guys had a really nice trip. Awesome!

    1. Thanks Robyn. It was a nice afternoon and only a short drive from home. Hanging onto this tolerable summer weather before it disappears. Gonna be 10 degrees cooler next weekend. Our weather is very strange! And congrats on wrapping up your first month of school!!!
